My child has earache

Earache in children is almost always caused by inflammation of the middle ear. The middle ear is the space directly behind the eardrum in the ear.

If your child has a middle ear infection, the worst earache usually goes away on its own. Often within 2 to 3 days. In children under 2 years of age, the earache can last longer than 1 week.
